Frequently Asked Questions

Still have questions? Take a look at the FAQ or reach out anytime (efracchi@uoregon.edu). If you’re feeling ready, go ahead and find a time that works for you!

  • According to the International Coaching Federation (ICF), coaching is "partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential."

In our sessions, you're the expert on your own life and career. I'm here to ask powerful questions, offer observations, and help you gain clarity so you can make decisions and take actions that are right for you.

    What coaching is:

    • A collaborative partnership focused on your goals

    • A creative, forward-looking process

    • An opportunity for you to explore options and possibilities

    • A safe space to think out loud and gain clarity

    • Action-oriented, with you owning the outcomes

    What coaching is NOT:

    • Therapy or counseling (we focus on the present and future, not healing the past)

    • Advice-giving or consulting (you design your own solutions)

    • Mentoring (I won't tell you what I did or what you "should" do)

    • Required or evaluated (your participation is voluntary and confidential)

    • A guarantee of specific outcomes (you're in charge of your results)

  • No. You can book one session, both sessions, or none at all. This is entirely up to you.

  • That's completely fine! These coaching sessions are available to all students in this class, whether you're graduating this spring or continuing in the program.

While some students use coaching to navigate job searches and career transitions, others use it to explore questions like:

    • What kind of work aligns with my values and strengths?

    • How do I want to design my career in this sector?

    • What experiences or skills should I prioritize while I'm still in school?

    • How do I create balance and sustainability as a graduate student?

    • What does leadership look like for me?

Life and career design isn't just for when you're job searching, it's valuable at any stage. You're welcome to use these sessions to explore whatever questions matter most to you right now.

  • To ensure all students have access to coaching throughout the term:

    • Session 1: Available in April

    • Session 2: Available in May/June

This structure helps you connect with coaching at different points in your term, perhaps as you're clarifying your direction, and again when you're deeper into job searching or facing specific decisions.

  • That's completely normal! We can begin by exploring what's on your mind, what questions you're sitting with, or what feels uncertain. The agenda will emerge from there. The bottom line is, you don’t have to have it all figured out before you arrive.

  • Yes. Our conversations are completely confidential. I will not share what we discuss with your professors, the program, or anyone else unless required by law or ethical obligation (such as imminent harm).

  • Your job is to show up ready to chat. If you'd like, you can think about what you want to focus on, but it's not required. We'll figure out the agenda together at the beginning of each session.

  • Yes. You can cancel or reschedule with at least 24 hours notice, otherwise you’ll forfeit your session. This also allows the time to be made available to other students.

Note: To ensure all students have access to coaching throughout the term:

    • Session 1: Available in April

    • Session 2: Available in May/June

Rescheduling will still need to fall within the timing parameters.

  • No problem. You're never obligated to continue or book your second session. This resource is here to serve you. Use it only if it's helpful.
